Nature has given us many gifts and the most important one during today’s age is essential oil. Expertly distilled and bottled plant material produces a potent scent that can be used in aromatherapy, body care recipes, and simply for enjoyment. However, some essential oils are just too precious, and finding raw materials for essential oils is quite a challenge. That is when the need for aroma chemicals arises.
There are 5 synthetic counterparts used as major constituents for essential oils, manufactured by SBBLG. With our state-of-the-art facility, we can manufacture the required substitutes in all three of our units: aromatics, flavors, and board mills. Details of each synthetic counterpart are given below.
Aromatics unit: spearmint oil – d carvone
Chewing gum, toothpaste, and other oral products are flavored with spearmint oil, which contains high amounts of carvone, Dihydrocarvone, and their related alcohols.
Carvone is a monoterpene that can be synthesized in well-equipped labs. Two optical isomers can produce different biological responses, especially toward olfactory receptors. There is one, S-(+)-carvone (or d-carvone) which has a mentholated, spicy aroma with rye notes and medium strength, while R-(−)-carvone (or l-carvone) has a minty and sweetish odor.
Aromatics unit: oregano oil – carvacrol
Carvacrol is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a spicy odor like thymol. It is widely found in oregano oil. However, synthetically manufactured Carvacrol at our unit has many applications in the industry.
With its distinctive aroma, Carvacrol is widely used in the formulation of fragrances, oral products, spices, and medicines, among other applications.
Flavors unit: peppermint oil – menthol
Peppermint and other mint plants naturally contain menthol, but they can also be synthesized in our flavor unit laboratory. It has flavoring and local anesthetic properties and it strengthens peppermint flavors when added to pharmaceuticals and foods.
Board mills unit: thyme oil – thymol
Thymol is found in thyme oil. In flavor compositions, the synthetically manufactured thymol is primarily used in toothpaste, cough drops, mouthwashes, gargles, and chewing gums.
Board mills unit: clove oil – eugenol
Eugenol, sometimes commonly identified as clove oil, is an aromatic oil extracted from cloves. Eugenol is used as a flavoring for foods and teas or even as an herbal oil used topically to treat toothache.
SBBLG manufactures pure, quality aroma chemicals at all three units which offer a deeper, richer fragrance, and flavor as well as profound aromatherapeutic benefits. Visit our website sbblgroup.com today.
